US Label Review Services
Why You Need a US Compliant Label
The FDA and the US government are overhauling food and beverage labelling in response to advances and revelations in the nutritional science industry. To be sold in the US market, your label must comply with the FDA's new requirements by 2020 (2021 for small businesses).
-
The FDA plans to work cooperatively with manufacturers to meet the new Nutrition Facts label requirements. Specifically, the compliance deadlines are as follows:
-
Manufacturers with $10 million or more in annual sales must switch to the new label by January 1, 2020
-
Manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales have until January 1, 2021 to comply.
-
Manufacturers of most single-ingredient sugars such as honey and maple syrup and certain cranberry products have until July 1, 2021 to make the changes.
-
Manufacturers of certain flavoured dried cranberries have until July 1, 2020 to make the changes.
We already work to this level at Global Import Agent, ensuring that your mark is compliant for export to the United States right away, as well as for years to come.
Our team will work diligently to ensure that you are in full compliance and export-ready once we obtain basic product specifications on nutritional, allergen, and additive details.
We will examine your label, evaluate it, and give you advice about how to make sure the values, percentages, and formatting are all in order. We will likely be working with your Graphics Designer to ensure that the label is not only legal, but also appealing and marketable.

The iconic design hasn't altered significantly, but the type size for "Calories," "Servings per Container," and the "Serving size" declaration has been increased, and the number of calories and the "Serving size" declaration have been bolded to emphasize this detail.

This newly developed label also seeks to meet the recommendations of nutritional science, so "added sugars" will be listed on the label in grams and as a percentage of the Daily Value.

Newer scientific evidence from the Institute of Medicine and other findings, such as the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Study, is being used to update daily values for nutrients including sodium, dietary fiber, and vitamin D.
